SILVERFISH

|
Description:
Silverfish are
wingless and have a flattened teardrop/carrot/fish-shaped body.
There are three long, bristle-like or tail-like appendages on
the rear end of their body. Adult body length, not including tails,
about 1/2" - 3/4”.
|
Why
be concerned?
Silverfish will
infest and damage a variety of materials, ranging from clothing,
books, papers, to even wallpaper. They are a nuisance that many
people find repulsive.
|
What
you can do.
Silverfish love
humidity. When storing books or papers, reduce the humidity by
using a desiccant package (available in drugstores) in storage
boxes. Silverfish will travel great distances for food, so when
you see one remember that it may be a long way from home.
|
What
we would do.
Our first step
is to determine harborage sites-where they are living. Your technician
will then treat the harborage sites, wall voids, and attic areas
with a desiccant material. This material works by drying out the
insects rather than through toxic action.
